Rain

Rain,
Sitting here inside,
Waiting for the skies to clear,
Hoping our vacation isn’t smeared,
And yet I see only
Rain,
Pouring down in sheets
upon this sleepy calm lagoon,
It’s time has come to drench this lovely cove
with cleansing droplets;
Rain,
I’ll wait it out,
Serenely know this pause,
Precisely why I came, my soul’s refreshed,
Showered ‘neath the sheets of
Rain.

Autumnal Conundrum

It’s autumn; as my planner oft repeats,
It’s autumn; yet the warming sun rays beat
It’s autumn; I’ll delay my pumpkin treats
for mallows, crispy-squished ‘tween graham sweets.

It’s autumn; yet we’re travel’ing to the beach,
It’s autumn; backyard chairs remain in reach,
It’s autumn; school’s in session (they’ll be teached);
Or is it taught? No matter, we’ll impeach,

It’s autumn; yes I see the troubled sky,
It’s autumn; I can’t help but wonder why,
It’s autumn; though temps soar, a change is nigh,
The balmy air breathes warm, I can’t deny.

Though this fall brings in more summer days,
We’ll not complain; we’ll happily engage.

Textured Layers

While gliding on the resort launch on our way to the Magic Kingdom, my eye was initially drawn to the brilliant, white puffy clouds hovering against a perfect sky-blue sky, as the monorail zoomed across the spanse.

I snapped this Photo.

It wasn’t until hours later, when I scanned my images, that I realized I’d captured so much more.

The picture-postcard reflection of the sky and Grand Floridian Resort on the lagoon was interrupted only by the undulations of the languid, marshy waters, hinting at what might live beneath the surface.

Textured layers of softness, architectural rigidity, motion, fluidity and depth combine to create a sense of wonder and mystery.

Freeze-frame

I remember when I was a girl of five,
And pretty, colored skirts were joyous things,
We’d twirl upon our coffee-table stage,
With shrieks and soaring screams, for we had wings.

I hadn’t thought on that for many years,
Until one summer day, we stood to wait
at Main Street Station, for the Disney train
to choo-choo us around the Kingdom gates.

The noon parade had nearly reached its end,
The horse-drawn trolley paused; cast disembarked
to sing and dance, their happiness conveyed
in gay, bright swirling skirts, throughout the park.

I caught the motion, as the circles twirled,
In freeze-framed joy, forever they’re unfurled.

Rhapsody in Blue

I never tire of a clear morning when, while seeking a once-in-a-lifetime sunrise, I find, instead, a stunning, sparkling moon. This morning was particularly spectacular, as I could clearly delineate the crevices and crannies of the rocky moon surface. I didn’t see the man in the moon on this morning, but I know he was watching!.

Rhapsody in blue pervades my worn, slaked senses
Over-draping tensions of these troubled times,
Understated on this shore (as sun’s ascending),
Greets, compels, implores, like distant, morning chimes,
Harken, pause, inhale, consume this scene sublime.

Planning for the Future

Last Sunday, after having purchased a case of freshly picked Roma tomatoes at the Summit Farmers’ Market, I spent the rest of the afternoon, prepping and canning the luscious lot.  It was a messy, slippery, time-consuming afternoon, but most definitely, it was a labor of love.   Someday, in the middle of winter, I will open one or two jars of these beauties and make a scrumptious sauce for our family Sunday dinner.  It will be cold and possibly snowing outside, but I’ll smile, remembering the warmth and satisfaction of that sunny, summer morning.

Copious, the harvest of this day,
Ovate, ‘Roma’ beauties, plump and gay,
Never better, summer’s end is nigh,
Tempting to eat now, refrain I try,
Rinsing, peeling, sterile in each jar,
Add a sprig of basil, nothing more,
Sauce of nature’s fruit, some wintry day,
Tomato treasures saved in such a way.

Blurred Lines

Structure straight and perfectly aligning,
A thousand stamens reaching for the sun,
Each radiation delicate reminding
We’re more than just ourselves, we are as one.

From far perspective, branches tipped with pompons,
Beckon to us: come survey our blooms,
‘Til closer in we scan the broad-leafed palm fronds,
To spy their tender details, through my zoom.

Like fiberoptic orbs of garnet plumes,
Yet, through my macro lens, the background blurs,
Providing softish backdrop, like a womb,
For scarlet shafts of shimmer, tiny furs.

Structure ‘gainst the out-of-focus light,
Heightens sense of wonder at this sight

White Egret

Amid the hustle and bustle of exiting the Magic Kingdom, we’d decided to forego the monorail that would whisk us back to The Polynesian Resort, for a balmy ride aboard the launch, which had just arrived at the dock. As we made haste to catch the launch, I was suddenly distracted by this beautiful, unhurried creature (aka shiny object) as he loped through the lush greenery. At risk of (literally) missing the boat, nevertheless, I had to stop in my tracks to capture the moment.

Of Pearls and Scarlet Plumes

Before the golden fire-star breaks through,
I stroll in search of glories yet unseen,
Then I espy wee orbs of tenuous dew,
Formed atop the tips of buds agleam.

It may be that crimson color scheme
distracts, and causes one to pass on by,
Ignoring precious pearls, before sunbeams
cast their rays and beckon dragonflies.

I ponder which is better, butterflies
or closed buds, bedewed with webs and threads
of moisture; I can’t say so I won’t try
I’ll capture both within my lens, instead.

Each flower in its cycle, seed to bloom,
Is, for a fleeting moment, scarlet plume.

The Polynesian Village (WDW) is a verdant wonderland of photo opportunities and inspiration.  My predawn walk this morning, was no exception. Despite the dazzling sunrise, I find that the macro world at my feet is, often, more miracululous.
